A second chance to live-Ms. Amol Rose. 39

Amol Rose, a 39-year-old mother of five from Kalekori village in Kotido District, faced a severe health crisis in September 2022. With no appetite, chest pain, and a persistent cough, she visited several healthcare facilities, but nothing worked. “The medicines just wouldn’t work,” Amol recalls. Desperate, she turned to traditional healers who performed painful rituals, but her condition worsened.

Hope arrived in November 2023 when Lemu Konyen, a TB champion who had conquered the disease himself, noticed Amol at a community gathering. He connected her with two Community Own Resource Persons (CORPs), Lochoro Mario and Adome John, who tested Amol and her family for tuberculosis (TB). The diagnosis was confirmed, bringing both fear and relief. "It was the first time I understood what was wrong with me," she says.

The Warrior Squad Foundation team, alongside healthcare workers, began her treatment and offered preventive therapy to her family. “They explained the treatment and started me on medication,” Amol recalls. But food shortages meant she sometimes had to take the medication on an empty stomach, causing weakness and even a collapse. “I thought the drugs were harming me,” she admits, and stopped taking them.

Lemu, understanding her fear, intervened. “He shared his own experience,” Amol says, “emphasizing the importance of taking the medication with food.” His encouragement and regular check-ins helped Amol stay on track.

A follow-up test confirmed her recovery. “You’re curing!” the health workers declared. Amol’s health has since improved dramatically, with her cough gone and her energy restored. “I feel strong again,” she says, now working in her garden and caring for her family.
